Final Stats

Piscataway, N.J – Juniors Dannah Brehm and Kristen Wanner each scored for the Temple field hockey team, but it was not enough as the Owls saw Rutgers’ Amy Lewis score two of her three goals in the final ten minutes en route to a 4-2 Scarlet Knight victory on Sunday afternoon.

On a hot and humid day, the Cherry and White (3-4) were able to erase an early 2-0 Scarlet Knights (6-0) lead behind the efforts of Brehm and Wanner. With less than one minute left to play in the first half, Brehm scored an unassisted goal to cut the Rutgers lead to 2-1 heading into the break. Then just four minutes into the second half, Wanner scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner to tie the game at 2-2. Senior Mary Catherine Kinneman and junior Charise Young both added an assist on Wanner’s goal.

The game would remain tied 2-2 until the 60th minute when Rutger’s Amy Lewis scored the second of her three goals on the day to give the Scarlet Knights a 3-2 lead. Lewis struck once again in the 64th minute to bring the score to the 4-2 final.

In goal for the Cherry and White, senior Erin Hanshue recorded two saves.

The road-weary Owls finally return home for the first time since August 30th when they face Delaware on Friday. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:00.
