PHILADELPHIA-Susan Ciufo scored two goals to lead the Drexel field hockey team (7-2) over Temple, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon.  Kasey Ruth netted the lone tally for the Owls, who drop to 3-6 on the season.

The Dragons controlled play for most of the game, outshooting the Owls, 12-6.  The teams were fairly even with penalty corners, as the Owls had five attempts to Drexel’s six.

Drexel wasted little time taking the lead, when Sofi Sanguinetti found Amanda Kicera at 6:41 to make it 1-0.  Ciufo put the visitors up 2-0 after taking a pass from Christina Mastropaolo.  The Owls struggled to get shots off for the remainder of the half and went into the break with the two-goal deficit.

The Dragons picked up right where they left off in the second half when Jennifer Bolger tipped one past TU goalie Erin Hanshue just three minutes into the second stanza. Ciufo struck again in the 43rd minute, making the game 4-0 in favor of Drexel.  Ruth finally got the Owls on the board at 48:16 assisted by Mary Catherine Kinneman.  After a botched penalty corner, Kinneman saved the day when she dribbled to the top of the circle and pushed the ball to Ruth, who was waiting at the far left-hand corner of the field.  Ruth lifted the ball into the upper right-hand corner of the cage, just out of the reach of Drexel goalkeeper Colleen McAndrew.  Neither team was able to capitalize on various scoring opportunities for the remainder of the game, allowing the 4-1 tally to stand.

Hanshue had four saves on the day, while McAndrew stopped three Cherry and White scoring attempts.

Temple is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Rider at 1 p.m.
