PHILADELPHIA-Junior Yun Yi Zhang posted a double-double of 20 kills and 10 digs, while Ashley Carr added a career-high 17 kills but it was not enough as the Temple volleyball team (1-2) fell, 3-1, to Bowling Green (4-2) in day two of the Temple Invitational.
Jackie Morrison dished a season-high 56 assists, while Caitlin Loudon had 14 digs. Cayleigh Ashman posted 13 kills with just four errors and Ariel Pierre had 13 digs.
The teams traded points for most of the first game, though the Owls were finally able to put some distance between themselves and the visitors with a 21-16 advantage. Just when it seemed that the Owls were going to roll to victory, the Falcons came barreling back to tie the game at 23. The teams took turns with a one point lead until Temple was finally able to put the game away, 27-25.
Temple came out with a renewed aggressiveness in game two and quickly built a 15-10 lead. After a Falcon timeout, Bowling Green earned five straight points to tie the game at 15 and forcing the Owls to take a timeout. The small break seemed to work, as the Cherry and White were able to build a 21-17 lead. The Falcons refused to back down, however, and battled back to tie the game at 23. BGSU continued to ride the momentum and took game two, 27-25.
Game three continued to be tight and featured at least 10 ties. With the set tied at 26, the Falcons were able to go ahead to take a 2-1 lead with a 28-26 victory.
In game four, the Falcons dominated from the first whistle and were able to earn the 25-21 victory.
The Owls return to action at 5 p.m. against Fairfield.
