PHILADELPHIA - It will be Super Saturday at the Liacouras Center as both the Temple men's and women's basketball teams take the floor while Cherry and White fans will also be able to take part in the Sixth Annual Owl Club Auction and enjoy Dollar Dog Day. The Temple men (11-8, 3-2 A-10), winners of four straight at home and six of their last eight overall, take on Richmond (11-9, 3-2) at 6:30 p.m. (CBS College Sports) while the Temple women (12-7, 3-2) open the day at 3:30 p.m. with a game against Dayton (13-8, 2-3). Both games will be broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.
All-America candidate Dionte Christmas continues to pace the Owls and the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 20.5 scoring average. The 6-5 senior guard continues to climb up the all-time Temple scoring chart, passing legendary Guy Rodgers with his 27-point effort at Rhode Island Wednesday. He now holds sixth place with 1,773 points, 38 behind Terence Stansbury (1,811, 1980-84).
Junior guard Ryan Brooks, the team's top defender, is second on the squad with a 10.7 scoring average while sophomore forward Lavoy Allen (10.2 ppg.) leads the team in rebounding (7.0 rpg), field goal percentage (.555) and blocked shots (30).
Richmond, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Chris Mooney, is looking to continue its perfect record (2-0) in A-10 road games this season. The Spiders are led by junior guard David Gonzalvez (15.7 ppg.) and sophomore guard Kevin Anderson (15.0 ppg.). Sophomore forward Justin Harper (11.1 ppg.) tops the team in rebounding (5.1 rpg.) while senior center Jarhon Giddings (8.2 ppg.) and sophomore forward Kevin Smith (4.8 ppg.) complete a starting five that has been intact for all 20 games.
Temple owns a 7-6 edge in the series and has won three of the last four meetings. Richmond, however, owns a 5-4 edge in conference games since joining the league in 2001 and sports a 2-1 record in games played at Temple.
