Bridget Settles scores three goals to lead the Owls
Box Score
FENTON, Mo. – Another three-goal outburst from Temple sophomore Bridget Settles was too much for Saint Louis to overcome, as the Owls (7-11, 3-2 A-10) topped the Billikens (1-15, 0-5 A-10) 6-2 in their final road contest of the season. For Settles, it was her second hat trick of the season. The first came in a 3-0 win over Penn on October 4th.
Playing in wet and rainy conditions throughout the match, the Owls picked up a much needed win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Settles got the scoring started for the Cherry and White at the 11:52 mark of the first half when she tipped a ball from freshman Taylor Musser into the goal to give her team a 1-0 lead. The assist was the first of Musser's career. Kimmi Hanshue registered her second goal in three games when she capitalized on a penalty stroke with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Less than a minute before halftime, Caryn Lambright tipped in a shot from teammate Arialle Hess for the first goal of her career which gave the Owls a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
After Saint Louis got on the board with a goal early in the second half, Settles quickly answered with her second goal of the day, this one coming off a penalty corner. Another Billikens' goal would once again cut the lead to two, but this time senior Mandi Ruth responded with her fourth goal of the season. Senior Charise Young assisted on Ruth's goal to give her eight on the season. Settles would then finish off the scoring with 3:34 remaining in the contest with her third goal of the day and team-leading 11th of the season.
Junior Sarah Dalrymple and freshman Julianna Landolt split time in goal. Together the two goalkeepers combined to record three saves.
Temple led in every offensive category as they had six more corners (9-3) and 10 more shots (18-8) than Saint Louis.
The six-goal performance was the most by the Owls this season. Not since a 6-1 win over Rhode Island on October 14, 2007, has the team scored six goals. It also matched the highest offensive output by a team under the direction of fifth-year head coach Amanda Janney.
In order to secure a spot in the Atlantic 10 playoffs, the Owls must win their final regular season contest against first place Richmond on Sunday, November 1 at Geasey Field. Before the contest, Temple will honor its six seniors. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
