CINCINNATI, Ohio - After an exciting 27-25 win by the Owls in the first set, the momentum swung the other way as the Xavier volleyball team (9-8, 2-1 A-10) won the next three sets and defeated Temple (6-7, 2-2 A-10) by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-15.
In the first set, Temple used a 7-3 run to break open a six-point lead, 16-10, and the Owls held the advantage through to set point. The Musketeers then scored five straight to turn the tables and give XU set point at 25-24. The Owls answered, tallying three points in a row to take the win, 27-25.
Temple started off slow in the second set as Xavier jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. The Owls were able to cut the lead to four, 15-11, but the Musketeers only let TU score six more points in the set.
The third set saw four ties but Temple never led as Xavier took the set, 25-20, and in the fourth set, the Musketeers held a 8-2 advantage early and kept the lead throughout as the Owls never got closer than four.
The Owls were led by Yun Yi Zhang who had a match-high 23 kills and Chelsea Tupuola with a match-high 24 digs. Jackie Morrison recorded a double-double with 42 assists and 14 digs.
