Men's Crew Wins Three Races At Frostbite Regatta

Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Novice 4 all take home gold
CAMDEN, NJ - The Temple men's crew had a very successful outing at the Frostbite Regatta which was held for the first time on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ Saturday. The Owls won three of the five races they entered with Frosh/Novice 4+, Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8 taking home gold. The JV 8 placed second while the Owls B 4+ boat came in third.
In the Frosh/Novice 4+ the crew of cox Rob Nave, stroke Mike Mirabella, Kevin Nally, Majiec Grudgen and Trey Ehmer won by an incredible 58 seconds (nearly twenty boat lengths) over Lafayette and Ithaca.
In the Varsity 4+, Temple came from behind to overtake and defeat La Salle, Lafayette, and Loyola. The crew of cox Sam Scimeca, stroke Steve Brady, Joe Bellesheim, Brian Rehill, and Brad Long covered the course in 7:12 winning by six seconds.
In the Varsity 8, the Owls led from about the 20th stroke on. They gradually pulled away leading by five seconds at the halfway point (1K) and finishing up 6.57 seconds at the finish. The crew of cox Don Norris, stroke Jimmy Barr, Scott Waters, Pat Curran, Nenad Ninkovic, Jeff Wunderlich, Brendan Cunningham, Tom Masterson, and John Masterson covered the course in 6:12.6. The Owls bested Marietta, Delaware, Ithaca and Philadelphia University. Rowing in a different section, a very fast Drexel crew won as well, rowing a 6:24. Temple and Drexel will square off tomorrow in the Braxton Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
In the “B”4+ the crew of cox Rob Nave, stroke John Boehm, Alex Klein, Ryan Martin, and Nick Contino finished third behind Lafayette and Loyola.
In the JV 8 the crew finished second to Drexel. The Owls led most of the way only to have Drexel catch them in the last 500 meters. The JV 8 crew consisted of cox Sam Gennace, stroke Steve Brady, Joe Bellesheim, Brian Rehill, Petar Ivacic, Djordje Vilimanovic, Mike VanAssche, John Boehm, and Chris McCann.
The Owls take to the Schuylkill River Sunday in the Braxton Regatta.
