Owls top Eagles 64-46 to go 5-0; Temple led by four players in double figures

PHILADELPHIA – Four players scored in double figures to lead Temple women's basketball to its fifth straight win, a 64-46 victory over previously undefeated Eastern Michigan (4-1). The Owls are now 5-0 for the season, their best start in four years.
Shaqwedia Wallace scored a team-high 13 points and went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, also dishing out a game and career-high six assists. Kristen McCarthy, who has scored in double figures in every game, continued the trend with 12 points. Marli Bennett and Jasmine Stone chipped in 11 points apiece, with Stone adding a team-high nine rebounds.
Temple came out firing and led 10-1 at 13:56, holding Eastern Michigan without a field goal for over six minutes. The Owls went on to lead by as many as 15 on three occasions in the half, the last at the break after a jumper from McCarthy gave the Owls a 32-17 cushion.
McCarthy, who had led all players with nine points in the first half, set the tone in the second half with a three-pointer out of the gate.
With under three minutes gone in the second half, the Owls took a 25-point, 44-19 lead after two straight buckets from Bennett including one three. LaKeisha Eaddy's assist on the second basket put her at 399 for her career, moving her into second place all-time at Temple.
The Owls' largest lead of the contest came on a layup by Stone at the 15:39 mark, putting Temple up by seven, 48-21. Eastern Michigan never came within fewer than 18 points down the stretch.
Temple shot 43 percent from the field compared to 23 percent by the Eagles, and the Owls finished with a 45-38 edge on the glass.
The Owls will return to action after Thanksgiving, traveling to Hartford for a 2:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, Nov. 28.
