WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – With six of Hartford's nine three-pointers, Mary Silvia helped the Hawks (4-1) hand Temple women's basketball its first loss of the season, 65-54. The Owls now stand at 5-1.

Temple out-rebounded Hartford 44-33, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit created by the Hawks' three-point shooting. Shaqwedia Wallace led Temple for the fifth time in six games, scoring 18 points, and Jasmine Stone recorded a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kristen McCarthy pulled down 10 boards and added eight points.

Silvia finished with a game-high 20 points for Hartford, and was the only player to score in double figures for the Hawks.

Silvia, coming back from a wrist injury and playing in her first game of the season, drained 5-of-5 three-point attempts in the first half, the last of which gave the Hawks a 14-point, 32-18 lead with 4:35 remaining.

Temple answered with an 8-0 run to cut the margin to six at 2:06, but Hartford went 6-of-6 at the line in the final two minutes of the half while the Owls were 0-for-2 from the field to trail by 12 at the break, 38-26.

Ilicia Mathis, who had not scored in the first half for Hartford in limited minutes due to foul trouble, continued the Hawks' three-point clinic to open the second half, sinking 2-of-2 as Hartford opened the half with a 10-2 run to take its largest lead of 20.

LaKeisha Eaddy hit Temple's first trey of the game at 15:37 to start a 5-0 run that narrowed the margin to 15.

Solid free-throw shooting got the Owls to within 12, 57-45 with six and a half minutes remaining. Kristie Watkins-Day hit a jumper at 4:10 during a four-minute scoring drought for Hartford, narrowing the margin to 10, but Temple was never able to cut the margin to single digits.

Temple will play its next two games on the road as well, next returning to action on Wednesday, Dec. 2 in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Rutgers.
