Boxscore

OXFORD, OHIO –
An explosive first half led by junior Lavoy Allen and the senior duo of Luis Guzman and Ryan Brooks propelled the Temple men's basketball team to a 64-42 victory over Miami Tuesday night at Millett Hall. The trio combined for 29 first-half points, moving the Owls to 7-2 on the season, the program's best start since 1994-95.  Miami falls to 2-6.

A 25-0 run, highlighted by four treys from Guzman (12 points) – three-straight at one point, gave the Owls a commanding 30-6 lead with 7:49 left in the first. A smooth jump-hook from Allen (15 pts, 7 rebs, 4 asts) started the scoring barrage, with the junior hitting three more deuces for eight first half points.

The Temple defense stilfed Miami, holding their foe scoreless for nearly 10-minutes in the opening stanza. Junior Nick Winbush (10 pts, 10 rebs.) hit a jumper from long-range at 6:37 upped the RedHawks tally for the first time since the 16-minute mark.

Beating the buzzer, TU's Brooks (9 pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts) drained a two sending the Owls into halftime leading 36-16. Focused play led to only one first half turnover for Temple.

Miami seemed energized out of the break, quickly tallying five unanswered points. TU sophomore Juan Fernandez (10 pts, 4 asts) dampened their momentum with five points of his own, draining a trey and drawing contact while finishing a strong drive.

With the shot clock winding down, Fernandez slipped a bounce pass to Allen for a dunk at 9:05 in the second, extending the lead to 52-29.

Two late threes from junior Craig Williams and another from sophomore Scootie Randall would bring the TU team total to 11 on the night, a season high.

The win for the Owls was the first in the confines of Millett Hall, avenging last year's home loss and ending the RedHawks two-game win streak over TU.  The 42 points allowed by Temple equals the season low achieved against Penn State a game ago.

Up next, the Cherry and White host #3/3 Villanova on Sunday, December 13th at 3:00 p.m. The game will televised on CBS College Sports.
