Field Hockey Signs Four to Class of 2013

PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey head coach Amanda Janney, entering her fifth season in 2009, has announced four incoming freshmen for the Class of 2013. The newest Owls are Katie Briglia, Arialle Hess, Julianna Landolt and Taylor Musser.

"Our coaching staff is extremely pleased with this incoming class of four great student-athletes," said  Janney. "This class has an excellent mix of athletic talent and leadership abilities that will strengthen our current team."

Briglia, a native of Phoenixville, Pa., was one of the most heralded field hockey players in the entire Philadelphia region. During her senior season at Villa Maria Academy, Briglia scored 17 goals and had eight assists, leading her team the PIAA Final Four and a District 1 Championship For her efforts, Briglia was named First Team All-State, Philadelphia Inquirer Honorable mention and First Team All-Daily News. During her junior campaign, she scored 22 goals en route to First Team All-State, First Team Philadelphia Inquirer and First Team All-Daily News honors. Outside her high school efforts, Briglia was a member of the Malvern Wave club team that captured first place at the USFHA Festival in 2008.

Hess, a native of Allentown, Pa., led Parkland in goals and assists during her senior season, earning all-area first team and Lehigh Valley Second Team honors. Excelling in the classroom, she also earned all-state academic honors. As a junior, Hess was once again the team leader in points, earning league offensive player of the year honors. Hess is a member of the X-Calibur Club team and will be participating in the 2009
USFHA National Indoor Tournament.

Musser, a native of Mifflinburg, Pa., scored 22 goals during her senior season at Mifflinburg High School. For her efforts, the senior captain earned First Team All-State honors, and was name the Anthracite Athlete of the Year, Daily Item Player of the Year,  and Standard Journal First Team All-Star. As junior, she scored 16 goals and added 12 assists as the Wildcats captured the PIAA Class AA State Championship. Along with her high school accomplishments, Musser was a member of the Pennsylvania National Futures Championship Team “Futures Elite” and was a bronze medalist at the Keystone Games.

Landolt, a native of West Chester, Pa. comes to North Broad Street after three seasons as the starting goalkeeper at Unionville High School. She was captain of her team during her senior season. Outside of her high team, Landolt was a member of the Typhoon club team and participated in the 2008 USFHA Field Hockey Festival.

"We are happy to welcome these players and their families to our field hockey program," said coach Janney. "We are excited about the future of Temple field hockey and these four talented student-athletes will ensure that our program will continue to succeed and hold true to the winning traditions that our alumni have set forth."
