Trailing Temple just 37-33 in second-half points, Rhode Island kept within striking distance but never made a significant run. After using the three-point shot heavily in its last few contests, Temple was able to go inside on most possessions against the Rams, particularly in the first half. The Owls finished with a 36-24 advantage in points in the paint, and out-rebounded the Rams 45-29.
Temple shot a season-best 53.1 percent from the field, while holding Rhode Island to 34 percent shooting.
Temple will take a break from A-10 play this weekend for some Big 5 action. The Owls will play host to Penn on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall. Temple Athletics would like to “Pack the House” for the game against the Quakers, and there will be nine chances for fans to win great prizes including an iPod Touch and official team gear.
