Owls and Quakers set for Big 5 matchup at 2:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall

Game Notes vs. Penn

PHILADELPHIA - Temple women's basketball is coming off its third straight win and looking to "Pack the House" against Big 5 rival Penn on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall. Nine individual prizes will be awarded to fans in attendance, including an iPod touch and official team gear. Following the game, all kids ages 14 and under (with one accompanying adult) can go on the court to make a basket as part of Parent-Child Layup Day.  For those not able to make it to the game, check out the live webcast at OwlAccess.

Today's contest is Temple's third Big 5 game of the season, and the Owls are 1-1 so far. Villanova has earned the title by going 4-0, but Temple can take second place with wins vs. Penn and La Salle.

Sophomore Kristen McCarthy and junior Qwedia Wallace lead the Owls with 12.7 and 12.5 points per game, respectively. Senior Jasmine Stone leads the team in rebounds at 8.8 per game, good enough for fifth place in the A-10.

Temple was without the services of starting point guard LaKeisha Eaddy (8.4 ppg, 3.9 apg) for its games vs. Xavier and Fordham after Eaddy suffered a concussion and broken nose in practice on Jan. 8. Eaddy returned in style on Jan. 16 vs. Saint Joseph's, scoring a game and season-high 17 points to help lead Temple to victory.

Sophomore BJ Williams (7.3 ppg, 2.7 apg) stepped in at point guard for Eaddy when she was out, and also started at Rhode Island where she put up big numbers. Junior Marli Bennett (5.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg) has started every game this season, and scored a career-high 13 points earlier this week at Rhode Island.

SCOUTING PENN
Penn has struggled to a 1-13 record so far, with its lone win coming at home against St. Francis (N.Y.). Today's contest is the last Big 5 game of the season for the Quakers, who have lost to Villanova, La Salle and Saint Joseph's. Senior guard Sarah Bucar is averaging 10.3 points per game to lead Penn, and is the only player averaging double figures. Sophomore forward Jess Knapp is the team's leader on the boards with 6.9 rpg.

The Quakers finished with a 9-19 record a year ago, and have a new coach this season in Mike McLaughlin.

SERIES RECORD
Temple holds a 45-15 advantage in the all-time series against Penn. The Owls have won the last five straight contests as well as 12 of the last 14. Last year's meeting at Penn resulted in an 81-70 win for Temple, which was the closest game of the last five. Penn last earned a win on Dec. 9, 2003 by a score of 70-64, at Temple.

DOUBLING UP
Senior Jasmine Stone has tallied five double-doubles this season which ranks as the most on the team and is tied for the third-most this season in the A-10. Most recently, Stone led TU with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds in the Owls' win at Rhode Island on Jan. 19.

BRINGING OUT THE "A"-10 GAME
Over Temple's first four conference games, sophomore BJ Williams has become a major factor. Williams has started in three of the four after only making one previous start this season, and has averaged 11.5 points per game (7.3 ppg overall). Most notable are the assists she's dished out- 24 total (6.0 apg).

1,000-POINT WATCH
LaKeisha Eaddy has scored 983 points heading into today's contest vs. Penn.

BIG 5 ALREADY DECIDED
Villanova has already won this year's Big 5 title with a 4-0 record, leaving others to battle for second place. It will be the first time in five years that Temple does not win at least a share of the title.

THE VOTES RETURN
After Temple's three losses to ranked teams, the Owls stopped receiving votes in the national polls. But after going 3-0 since then, Temple is back, getting 4 votes in the AP Poll and 3 votes in the ESPN/USA Today Poll.

EADDY NOT MISSING A BEAT
After missing Temple's games at Xavier and vs. Fordham due to a concussion and broken nose, senior LaKeisha Eaddy returned in a big way vs. Saint Joseph's. The senior point guard scored a game and season-high 17 points, dished out five assists and tallied four steals.

ONE-SIDED SECOND HALF
Temple held Fordham to 34 points in its win against the Rams on Jan. 13, which ranks as the second-lowest point total for any opponent of an A-10 school this season.

Fordham was held scoreless for nearly a 14-minute stretch of the second half as Temple increased a 10-point lead to a 38-point lead.

MCCARTHY SHINES VS. THE BEST
Sophomore Kristen McCarthy had three of the best performances of her career in Temple's three consecutive games against top-15 teams. She averaged 21 points and 6.3 rebounds over the 0-3 stretch for Temple, shooting 48 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three-point range.

McCarthy scored 16 points vs. Duke, recorded a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds at Florida State, and put up a career-high 28 points at Xavier.

THIRD BIG 5 HONOR FOR QWEDIA
Qwedia Wallace is the Big 5 Player of the Week for the third time this season. Wallace averaged 13.5 ppg in helping lead TU to wins last week vs. Fordham and St. Joseph's.

RPI REPORT
Temple is currently 35th in the nation in RPI according to CollegeRPI.com, and 34th according to realtimerpi.com.
