Game Notes vs. Buffalo
PHILADELPHIA - Two home games are on tap for the Temple women's basketball team as the Owls will play host to Buffalo and Northern Illinois out of the Mid-American Conference. Temple will face the Bulls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, and will take on the Huskies of Northern Illinois on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
Live stats and a live webcast are available for both contests through owlsports.com.
Temple is still looking for its first win of the 2010-11 season after a home loss to #7/7 Ohio State followed by a road loss at Seton Hall. While the Owls hung with the powerhouse Buckeyes until late in the game, the loss to Seton Hall was disappointing as the Pirates were 9-21 a year ago.
Senior Qwedia Wallace got off to an impressive start to the season, scoring a career-high 32 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field against OSU. She drained a career-high 7-of-12 from behind the arc, including five three-pointers in the second half, and was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts.
At Seton Hall, Wallace, Kristen McCarthy and Natasha Thames led Temple with 13 points apiece. The 13 points were a career high for Thames, who also led the Owls with a career-high 12 rebounds.
This is the second meeting between Temple and Buffalo. The Owls defeated the Bulls in Buffalo a year ago by a score of 65-55. There's an Owl connection with Bulls' head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald, who coached at Temple for 10 years from 1980-90, taking the team to its first-ever NCAA Tournament in 1989.
Buffalo is 1-1 to start the season after an 86-63 win against Howard and a 78-69 loss to Cleveland State. Senior Kourtney Brown is averaging 18.5 points and 16.0 rebounds through two games, capped off by a career-high 34 points against Cleveland State in her last game. Brown also had 16 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards against the Vikings.
