Women's Basketball Faces Rutgers at Home Wednesday Night

Owls look to get second-straight win vs. Big East powerhouse Scarlet Knights

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's basketball team will face traditional rival Rutgers at home on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall. The Owls are looking to turn things around after an 0-2 trip to California last week that saw them lose a close, 73-69 decision at Pepperdine and a 71-61 contest at #13/13 UCLA.
Both a live webcast and live stats will be available for the game through Owlsports.com.
After getting down 14 points in the second half at Pepperdine, the Owls nearly completed a comeback in the final minute but could not tie the game. At UCLA, Temple led for nearly three-fourths of the game before hitting a scoring drought in the final 11 minutes.
Junior Kristen McCarthy had a breakout game with 22 points at #13/13 UCLA after struggling in earlier games this season. She hit 7-of-12 from the field including 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Newcomer Satoria Bell (junior transfer) led the Owls with 16 points at Pepperdine.
Prior to the losses, Temple had won two straight, both at home, with a 74-64 defeat of Buffalo and a 79-56 win against Northern Illinois.
Rutgers started the season 0-2 on the road but has since won four straight. The Scarlet Knights were champions of the Hyatt Place Lady Rebel Round-Up Tournament in?Las Vegas last week. April Sykes, averaging 13.3 ppg was named Tournament MVP, while redshirt junior Khadijah Rushdan is leading the team with 13.5 ppg. Head Coach C. Vivian Stringer is nearing her 850th career win, now in her 40th year as a women's basketball head coach.
This is the 44th meeting between Temple and Rutgers, with Rutgers holding a strong advantage in the all-time series at 33-10. The Owls took a win in last year's meeting on the road, 62-51- their first victory in four tries. Prior to last season, the Scarlet Knights had won three straight, including a 64-60 win in Philly two years ago.
