Juan Fernandez Named as a Candidate for Cousy Award

Owls junior one of 66 on list for nation's top point guard

PHIILADELPHIA  – Temple junior guard Juan Fernandez is a candidate for the Bob Cousy award given annually to college basketball's top point guard. A total of 66 players have been nominated for the 2011 award with the list being narrowed down to 20 on January 3.

Fernandez, a native of Rio Tercero, Argentina, leads Temple in assists with 34 while ranking third on the team in scoring with a 10.1 average. The team co-captain recently made his 100th career three-pointer and is tied for fourth on TU's all-time three-point percentage list (.392, 100-255).

A preseason second team all-Atlantic 10 Conference selection, Fernandez was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2010 A-10 Championship.

The Owls (8-2) next travel to Ohio (6-5) for a Wednesday game (7:00 p.m./1210 AM WPHT).
