Owls take on #2 Penn State, #6 St. John's and Duke
PHILADELPHIA – McGonigle Hall will be the site of competition this weekend as the Temple women's fencing team (12-6) hosts its final home meet of the season, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. The Owls will honor their three seniors - Christie Griffith, Kristin Howell and Melissa Parker - for outstanding careers donning the cherry and white.
Griffith, Howell and Parker have been a critical part of Temple's success over the past four years. This season, the Owls have been ranked has high as seventh, currently holding strong as the eighth-ranked team in the nation.
The Owls kicked off the dual-meet season with a 4-1 day at the Philadelphia Invitational. For the three seniors, the day was especially significant as they topped city-rival Penn for the first time in their tenures.
Going 2-0 at the Penn State Multi-Meet, the Owls continued their success at the Northwestern Duals, posting a 6-5 record over the two-day meet to give Hall of Fame head coach Nikki Franke her 600th career win.
Converging on North Broad Street will be second-ranked and defending NCAA champion Penn State, sixth-ranked St. John's and Duke.
Action is slated for February 27 in Temple's McGonigle Hall. Before competition begins at 10:00 a.m., Temple will honor their trio of seniors, as well as recognize the seniors from the visiting teams.
