Women's Basketball Travels Down the Road to La Salle on Saturday

Owls 11-0 against Explorers since 2001; looking for 12th straight
Game Notes vs. La Salle
PHILADELPHIA - Temple is 6-1 in its last seven games and looking to continue its hot streak at La Salle on Saturday, Feb. 6. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. against the Explorers, and a webcast as well as live stats are available.
The Owls (16-6, 5-2) most recently earned a 58-56 win at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 2. They had won five straight before having that streak snapped last weekend with a 64-54 loss to St. Bonaventure. The Owls are currently tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 with Dayton, behind Xavier (7-0), Duquesne (6-1) and Charlotte (6-2).
Sophomore Kristen McCarthy and junior Qwedia Wallace lead the Owls with 13.1 and 11.1 points per game, respectively. Senior Jasmine Stone leads the team in rebounds at 9.1 per game, good enough for fourth place in the A-10.
Senior LaKeisha Eaddy (8.0 ppg, 3.7 apg) recently became the 17th player in the history of the program to score 1,000 career points, getting the mark in TU's loss to St. Bonaventure last weekend. Eaddy hit a clutch shot on Feb. 2 at Saint Joseph's, sinking a jumper with 3.9 seconds on the clock to lift Temple to victory.
Sophomore BJ Williams (7.1 ppg, 3.2 apg) has now started in seven of the last eight games, and is averaging 9.7 points per game and 5.1 assists per game in A-10 play. Junior Marli Bennett (5.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg) has started every game this season, and scored a career-high 13 points at Rhode Island as well as a team-high 11 points earlier this week at Saint Joseph's.
SCOUTING LA SALLE
La Salle (5-17, 0-7) has struggled since the A-10 season began, and is winless so far at 0-7. They were 5-10 in non-conference games, and are 1-2 in the Big 5 with a win against Penn. The Explorers also scored a 68-57 win against city rival Drexel, who is currently atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings at 8-1.
The Explorers are led in scoring and rebounding by Morgan Robertson with 10.5 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game.
SERIES RECORD
Temple is only 17-20 all-time against La Salle, but has dominated since 2001, winning all 11 meetings. Last year the Owls earned a 62-55 home win vs. the Explorers, and two years ago Temple won a 60-55 decision at La Salle.
BIG 5 ALREADY DECIDED
Villanova has already won this year's Big 5 title with a 4-0 record, leaving others to battle for second place. It will be the first time in five years that Temple does not win at least a share of the title. If the Owls defeat La Salle today, they will finish second in the Big 5.
hISTORY REPEATS ITSELF
Temple's loss on Jan. 30 to St. Bonaventure was a repeat of a year ago, when the Bonnies handed TU one of only three A-10 defeats. The Owls are 14-3 against the Bonnies since 2001, but in the recent loss, St. Bonaventure shot 54.8 percent from the field and went 15-of-19 at the FT?line.
HEIGHTENED SECURITY
Temple has held 16 of its 22 opponents this season to 56 points or fewer, and currently ranks 17th in NCAA Division I in scoring defense at 54.4 ppg.
Temple's win vs. Penn on Jan. 23 showcased one of its best defensive performances. Penn's 31 points were a season-low by a TU opponent, and rank as the second-lowest for any A-10 opponent this season.
TAKING IT AWAY
LaKeisha Eaddy tallied five steals at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 2, which moved her into fourth place all-time at Temple in career steals with 224. Eaddy doesn't have far to go to reach #1, currently Pam Balogh with 237.
CONSISTENT KRISTEN
Kristen McCarthy has been TU's most consistent performer on offense all season long. The sophomore, who has started all 22 games, is leading the team at 13.1 ppg and has scored in double figures in nine of the last 10 contests.
DOUBLING UP
Senior Jasmine Stone has tallied seven double-doubles this season which ranks as the most on the team and is the fourth-most this season in the A-10. Most recently, Stone notched a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Owls' loss to St. Bonaventure on Jan. 30.
1,000 POINTS REACHED
LaKeisha Eaddy scored the 1,000 point of her career against St. Bonaventure on Jan. 30. Her 1,008 career points rank 16th all-time at Temple.
BRACKETOLOGY
ESPN's Charlie Creme has Temple projected to earn an NCAA Tournament berth as a #10 seed, according to his latest bracket posted on Feb. 1.

Temple players currently rank first in the conference for A-10 games in scoring, rebounding and assists. Kristen McCarthy is averaging an A-10-best 15.9 ppg for conference games, Jasmine Stone is tops with 10.7 rebounds per game, and BJ Williams leads the league for A-10 games with 5.1 assists per game.
