ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. –
With a 56-52 win against Richmond (26-8), the #17/17 Temple men's basketball team earned its third-straight Atlantic 10 Championship, becoming only the second team in A-10 history to three-peat.

Temple (29-5) joins UMass as the only other team to win three straight. The Minutemen won five consecutive titles from 1992-1996. The Owls stayed true to their top seed in the tournament, and are the first #1 seed to take the title since top-seeded George Washington won in 2005.

The victory avenged one of only two A-10 regular season losses for the Owls, who were defeated solidly by Richmond, 71-54, on February 6.

The Owls have now won 10 in a row, matching the longest streak since the 2000-01 team also won 10 straight.

A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player Juan Fernandez led all players with 18 points, while Ryan Brooks and Ramone Moore made clutch free throws in the final minute and finished with 12 points apiece.

Lavoy Allen was also named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing with a game-high 11 rebounds, and averaging 12 boards per game over TU's three tournament wins.

After getting out to a 7-0 lead, Temple missed its next five attempts while Richmond got into the game. The Spiders pulled within two at 11-9, and then tied the game for the first time at 15-15 with 8:30 remaining in the first half.

Ramone Moore drained back-to-back three-pointers to put the Owls back up by six, but Richmond was able to stay within one or two possessions all the way down the stretch. The Spiders got the last bucket of the half with eight seconds remaining, and Temple led by just four, 29-25 at the break.

Fernandez led all players with 11 points at halftime after shooting 4-of-9 from the field and 2-of-2 at the line.

Temple scored the first four points of the second half, and Fernandez hit his second three-pointer of the game to give Owls a nine-point, 36-27 lead at 17:40.

Brooks' second trey of the contest gave TU its first double-digit lead at the 12-minute mark, 44-32.

Richmond battled back to within seven on two occasions, and then cut the margin to six, 47-41 with seven minutes left in the game.

Kevin Anderson's layup and one pulled the Spiders within three, 49-46 with four minutes on the clock. Temple put itself in a precarious position down the stretch, scoring only one field goal after the nine-minute mark. In the midst of a six-minute scoring drought for the Owls, Richmond cut the margin to one, 49-48 with 1:17 remaining.

Brooks made two clutch free throws after being fouled on a jump shot, but the Spiders answered right back with a layup by Anderson. Down one and forced to foul with 22 seconds left, Richmond again sent Brooks to the line where he calmed the nerves of Temple fans, making both ends of a one-and-one.

A three-point attempt by Richmond missed the mark, but Moore put to rest any doubt by making 3-of-4 at the stripe to end the game and seal the win for Temple.
