Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – Costly errors helped Pittsburgh beat out the Temple baseball team 7-1, Sunday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. Junior Jean Carlos Diaz led the Owls' effort, going three-for-three with two doubles.
Redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak (0-2) took the loss on the day, despite only allowing two earned runs over 4.2 innings pitched. Panthers' starter Nate Hood threw nine innings of four-hit ball to take the win, only letting up one run.
Pittsburgh managed to get on the board in the second, capitalizing on a fielding error by Diaz in right. The mishap allowed one run to score, and would later plate the runner on a single from John Schultz.
Four more runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth enabled the Panthers to extend their lead to 7-0.
The Owls avoided being shutout in the eighth. Diaz led off with his second double of the day, and was able to move over and eventually score on a wild pitch.
To lead off the ninth, senior Tony Jusino ripped a single up the middle to extend his hit streak to 12 games, hitting safely in 13 of the last 15 games.
Temple (2-13) travels to Monmouth on Tuesday, their final non-conference matchup before they host Atlantic 10-foe Rhode Island, March 26-28 at Skip Wilson Field.
