Box Score
AMBLER, Pa. – Redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak (1-2) led the Temple baseball team past Rhode Island 8-4, Sunday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. Fanning five and allowing four earned runs over five innings of work, the East Stroudsburg, Pa. native also went one-for-three with a sacrifice fly and three RBI's.
Junior Ryan Ferguson helped spark the offense with two doubles and a triple, as the Owls combined for 14 hits on the day, including six doubles. Temple's defense tightened up as well, making several spectacular catches in a perfect fielding day.
Rhode Island's Anthony Pisani (0-1) was chased in the third, giving up four runs on five hits.
Temple got on the board in the first, with senior Tony Jusino (3-5, 2 2B) doubling and advancing to third on a wild pitch to score on a sacrifice fly by Nikorak.
The Rams answered with three in the third, but would be matched by the same total in the bottom of the frame by the Cherry and White. Back-to-back singles from Jusino and junior Adrian Perez (2-3) with two outs set up back-to-back doubles from Nikorak and Ferguson, plating three runs.
The visitors would get one back in the fourth, but again the Owls were up to the task. In the bottom half of the inning, junior Ben Flanary (2-4, 2B) led off with a double and would score on a double by sophomore Jabair Khan (2-4, 2B, RBI).
Ferguson tripled and scored with two outs in the fifth to tack on another insurance run for TU. The game would be put out of reach in the eighth, with freshman David Hall jacking a two-run homer to left-center, moving the final score to 8-4.
Temple moves to 3-16, 1-2 in conference play, while Rhode Island falls to 9-12, 2-1.
Skip Wilson Field is the site of the Owls' next home game, when they take on Lehigh in the year's first Liberty Bell Classic matchup on Tuesday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m.
