PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's track & field team opened their outdoor season Saturday afternoon against cross-town rivals Villanova and La Salle, hosted at Villanova's Jumbo Elliot Track. The Owls owned ten first place finishes on the day, including seven IC4A qualifying marks.
Temple's “Big Three” – junior Grant West (193-00), sophomore Bob Keogh (184-01), and senior Bryce Buffaloe (179-01) – placed one-two-three in the hammer throw, all meeting IC4A marks.
Also in the field, junior Chris Durante placed first and met IC4A marks with a toss of 196-01 in the javelin. In the same event, sophomore Eric Brittingham finished second with a toss of 186-11.
Senior Tim Boeni excelled in the 200m, running a first place and IC4A qualifying time of 21.76. Classmate Brad McFadden won the 400m hurdles, running an IC4A time of 53.61.
In the 5,000m run, junior Mike May broke the school record running a time of 14:38.39.
The men's 4x100m relay team – Miles Dryden, Boeni, Daniel Lynch, and Emmanuel Freeland – placed first and met IC4A marks in a time of 41.62. Freeland also won the 100m dash in a time of 11.03.
In the discus, Buffaloe took top honors with a toss of 147-00, while sophomore Brian Littlepage placed second with a throw of 143-03. Buffaloe also owned the shot put with a day's best toss of 49-07.25.
Junior Kijaun Wilkinson placed first in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 46-06. Pole vault specialist Brian Smith won his event, clearing 13-05.25.
The Owls travel next to compete in the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary on April 2-3.
