Allen, Brooks, Fernandez Earn All-Big 5 Honors

PHILADELPHIA (04/12/10) – Temple University junior forward Lavoy Allen and senior guard Ryan Brooks earned first team All-Philadelphia Big 5 honors while sophomore guard Juan Fernandez was named to the second team. The awards will be presented at the Herb Good Basketball Club's 65th annual banquet, Monday, April 19, 2010 at The Savoy (formerly the Woodbine Inn), 1444 Route 73 North, Pennsauken, N.J.
Allen, who earned second team all-Big 5 honors as a sophomore in 2008-09, became the first Temple player since 1971 to average a double-double. The 6-9 forward out of Pennsbury High averaged 11.5 points and 10.7 rebounds for the season. The Morrisville, Pa. native also earned first team All-Atlantic 10 Conference and first team all-District honors.
Brooks, who led the three-time Atlantic 10 Conference champion Temple Owls in scoring with a 14.3 average, also earned second team all-Big 5 honors in 2008-09. The Narberth, Pa. native (Lower Merion HS), a second team all-Atlantic 10 selection this season, ended his career 31st on the Temple all-time scoring list with 1,225 points.
Fernandez, the top three-point shooter in the A-10 (73-161, .453), picks up his first all-Big 5 honor. The native of Rio Tercero, Argentina led Temple with 122 assists while placing second on the team in scoring with a 12.6 average.
Villanova's Scottie Reynolds was named the recipient of the Robert V. Geasey Award that goes to the Big 5's Most Outstanding Player. His teammate, Corey Fisher and La Salle's Rodney Green joined Allen and Brooks on the first team.
Joining Fernandez on the second team are La Salle's Aaric Murray, Penn's Zack Rosen, Villanova's Antonio Pena and Garrett Williamson of Saint Joseph's.
