PHILADELPHIA - Temple University head coach Fran Dunphy has been named the recipient of the Eastern College Coach of the Year by the Herb Good Basketball Club. Dunphy will receive the Harry LItwack Award at the Club's 65th annual banquet Monday, April 19, 2010 at The Savoy (formerly the Woodbine Inn), 1444 Route 73 North, Pennsauken, N.J.
A finalist for the 2010 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award, Dunphy earned his first career conference Coach of the Year honor when he was tabbed as the 2010 Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year. In his fourth year at the TU helm, he guided the Owls to their third straight A-10 Tournament title and first A-10 regular season championship since 2002.
Dunphy led Temple to a 29-6 overall mark, the third most wins in school history, and its first national ranking since 2001. Picked tied for fifth in the preseason A-10 poll, the Owls were ranked in the Top 25 in both polls during the final 12 weeks of the season. The #12 final ranking in the Associated Press poll tied for the fifth highest in program history.
