Owls held to just three hits on the day

NEWARK, Del. – The Temple baseball team struggled to muster up any offense in their midweek matchup with freshly crowned Liberty Bell Classic Champion Delaware, being held to just three hits in 13-0 loss at Bob Hannah Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Hens came out of the gates with three runs in the first that were never matched by the Owls.
Sophomore Tyler Horst (1-3) started for the Owls, only lasting 2.2 innings and giving up five earned runs.
Delaware's Matt Soren (1-0) earned the win, striking out nine over six innings of work.
The Blue Hens jumped out quickly to 3-0 lead in the first inning, utilizing two doubles and a home run to plate three runs on four hits. Delaware posted back-to-back to run innings in the third and fourth, and added one in the fifth and five in the sixth to move the final tally to 13-0.
Two of the Owls three hits came in the top of the fourth, as redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak singled with one out, advancing to third on single from sophomore Taylor Juran. Both would be stranded as the result of two strikeouts to end the inning.
Temple is now 5-27 on the season, while Delaware moves to 20-15.
The Owls host Richmond at Skip Wilson Field this weekend, April 23-25.
