Perez hits second walk off of the season to capture win

AMBLER, Pa. – With the game tied and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, junior Adrian Perez came through with a single up the middle to score sophomore Jabair Khan and capture game one over Richmond in thrilling fashion, 6-5. Junior Ben White gave the Owls a complete game effort, fanning two and allowing as many earned runs.
White (2-5) threw his first complete game win of the season, collecting his second victory.
Richmond's Ian Marshall (2-3) attempted to go the distance for the Spiders, giving up the game winning run in the ninth to Perez.
The visitors scored one in the top of the first on a throwing error, but the Owls responded in the bottom of the frame. Khan led off with a double to right field, scoring from third on a single from junior Ryan Ferguson.
Richmond scored another run on a two out error in the top of the third, but a massive solo home run from senior Tony Jusino in the bottom of the fourth tied it back up at 2-2.
The two teams again traded runs in the sixth, but Richmond jumped out to their biggest lead of the game in the seventh, scoring their first two earned runs of the game on three hits to move the lead to 5-3.
Temple was not to be outdone today, fighting back with two in the eighth to tie the game again at 5-5. Ferguson sparked a two out rally with a double to left center, three straight errors from the Spiders infield kept the inning alive allowing the two runs to plate.
White put Richmond down in order in the top of the inning, setting the stage for the Temple ninth.
Freshman Dan Dragos led off the inning with a single too hot for the UR third baseman, but was put out at second on sacrifice bunt try by Khan. The speedy Khan reached safely, stealing second base and advancing to third on a fly out by junior Byron McKoy. Down to their final out, Perez stepped in with his second walk off single of the season to capture the victory.
Junior Byron McKoy earned his 150th career hit today, leading off the Temple third with a single to the left side.
Temple is now 6-27, 3-10 in Atlantic 10 play while Richmond falls to 17-19, 4-9.
The series will wrap up Saturday, as the teams will be playing a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. at Skip Wilson Field.
