Box Score

AMBLER, Pa.
– Sophomore Jabair Khan and junior Byron McKoy provided four-RBI each in the Temple baseball team's 17-10 loss to cross-town rival Villanova at Skip Wilson Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls came on late, scoring eight runs over the final three innings.

Sophomore Tyler Horst (1-4) struggled in the start for the Owls, lasting just two innings and surrendering eight runs. Senior Mike Click came on in relief for the next four innings, while sophomore Dan Moller, redshirt-freshman Steve Visnic and freshman James Powers each threw one frame to close the game out.

Villanova's Kevin MacLachlan (4-0) earned the win, giving up five runs over seven innings of work.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead posting three runs in the first, but Temple picked up one in the bottom of the second. Back-to-back singles from junior Ryan Ferguson (2-5, RBI, 2B) and redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak set the table, and after a groundout by sophomore Taylor Juran a bunt single from Khan (2-6, 4 RBI, HR) loaded the bases with one out. McKoy (1-4, 4 RBI, HR) lifted a sacrifice fly into center to score Ferguson and move the score to 3-1.

Three straight scoring innings of five, three and three gave Villanova a commanding 14-1 lead, yet the Owls showed some fight.

Temple picked up one in the seventh as senior Tony Jusino singled and scored on a double by Ferguson. The Owls utilized the long ball in the seventh to pick up three on a three-run homer by Khan, then scoring two in the eighth and three more in the ninth on a three-run jack by McKoy.

Villanova posted one run in each of the last three innings, resulting in a final score of 17-10.

The Owls are now 7-29 on the season while Villanova moves to 22-16.

Temple resumes Atlantic 10 play this weekend traveling to compete at Charlotte from April 30 to May 2.
