White fans nine over seven, Owls post six in second

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
– Seven solid innings of work from junior Ben White and a six-run second inning propelled the Temple baseball team past conference leader Charlotte 8-4, Friday night in North Carolina. Junior Adrian Perez supplied the offense for the Owls, going two-for-four with a grand slam and a single for four-RBI.

White (3-5) was stellar in the start, striking out nine and allowing just four earned runs. Senior Ryan Thomas threw two scoreless to close out the contest, striking out two.

Charlotte's Corey Roberts (3-2) took the loss, being pulled in the fifth after surrendering six runs on as many hits.

A solo home run from Charlotte's Corey Shaylor gave the home team a 1-0 lead after one, but the Owls put the game out of reach in the second.

Singles by redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak (2-4) and junior Byron McKoy started things off, followed by another single from sophomore Taylor Juran to plate Nikorak. Freshman Dan Dragos reloaded the bases on a bunt, and a fielding error in a hit by sophomore Jabair Khan scored McKoy. Down to their final out in the inning, Perez stepped in with a grand slam to left field to give Temple the lead for good at 6-1. Perez now leads the team with 28 RBI on the season, owning three home runs.

Charlotte managed one in the third, fifth and sixth to bring the game within two at 6-4, but two from Temple in the seventh on a two-RBI single by junior Ryan Ferguson (1-5, 2 RBI) moved the eventual final score to 8-4.

The Owls are now 8-29, 5-11 in Atlantic 10 play while Charlotte falls to 29-11, 12-4.

Game two is slated for 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
