Box Score

AMBLER, Pa.
– Junior Ben White went eight innings striking out 13 batters in the start, but several crucial misplays made the difference in a 5-2 loss to Dayton for the Temple baseball team, Saturday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field.

White (1-4) let up just three earned runs, showing solid command the entire game with just two walks. Junior Brian Sustersic came on for one inning of relief, allowing no runs and one hit.

UD's Cameron Hobson (1-2) went the distance, giving up two runs and striking out nine.

The Flyers got on the board with two outs in the second, capitalizing on an error at shortstop to plate two runs.

Fighting right back, redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak led of the bottom of the frame with a double, scoring on a single by junior Ryan Ferguson to cut the lead to 2-1.

Dayton would pick up one in the fifth, manufacture another in the seventh and post their final run in the eighth to move the score to 5-1.

Temple did not let up however, picking up momentum for a rally in the bottom of the ninth. Junior Byron McKoy led off the inning with a single, advancing and eventually scoring on a single up the middle by sophomore Jabair Khan. Freshman David Hall, batting from the leadoff spot for the first time this season, kept the rally going with a single to right. Hobson forced a groundout by senior Tony Jusino to end the comeback effort, ending the game at 5-2.

The Owls fall to 3-17, 1-4 in conference play, while the Flyers move to 12-15, 2-3.

The series wraps up tomorrow, with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m. at Skip Wilson Field.
