Four Owls go deep in loss
Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple baseball team held the lead twice in Wednesday's matchup at cross-town rival La Salle, but two late runs gave the Explorers the final advantage, 8-7. Four different Owls went deep in the contest, including a two-run home run from junior Adrian Perez in the first inning.
Multiple Owls got work on the hill, with senior Mike Click getting the start going two innings. Sophomore Tyler Horst took the loss on the day, throwing three innings and giving up three earned runs.
La Salle's Joe Vincent earned the win, taking over with the lead and throwing two scoreless innings.
Temple came out on fire in the first, batting through the order to post three runs on six hits. Sophomore Jabair Khan (2-5, HR, RBI) led off the game with a single to right, scoring on Perez's two-run homer over the left-centerfield fence. Back-to-back singles from junior Ryan Ferguson and redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak reset the table, allowing sophomore Taylor Juran to hit a sacrifice fly to score Ferguson.
The Explorers answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, and two more in the third to take the lead at 4-3.
Khan took matters into his own hands in the fourth, tying the game up with a solo home run to left.
The Owls momentum continued to build, putting up three runs in the fifth. After junior Byron McKoy led off with a walk, junior Ben Flanary (2-5, HR, 2 RBI) jacked a two-run home run to left. The very next batter freshman David Hall followed suit with a solo home run to left field, giving Temple a 7-4 lead.
La Salle rallied for two in the fifth, posting two more in the sixth to take a 8-7 lead they would not relinquish.
Temple (3-21) gets back into Atlantic 10 play this weekend, traveling to Saint Louis for a three game set from April 9-11.
