AMBLER, Pa.
– Jumping out to a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning, the Temple baseball team again had George Washington down early, but 14 runs to the Owls' one over the final five innings gave the Colonials a 14-5 win in game two on Saturday at Skip Wilson Field. Senior Tony Jusino and junior Ryan Ferguson each went deep in the contest, accounting for a combined three RBI.

The Owls (9-34, 6-14) got on the board first, posting one run in the second as Ferguson led off with a double, scoring on a single from sophomore Jabair Khan. Jusino (2-4, HR, 2 R) led of a three-run Temple fourth with a home run to right field, sparking some momentum for the Owls offense.

After a bunt single from junior Adrian Perez, Ferguson (2-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) stepped to the dish a belted a towering homer to right, giving the Owls a 4-0 lead.

Redshirt-senior Matt Mongiardini (5.2 IP, 3 ER, 4 K) was dealing from the start, throwing four scoreless frames to start the ballgame and allowing just three hits over the span.

The Owls' starter ran into some trouble in the fifth, allowing the first two batters of the inning to single. Both runners advancing on a passed ball, one run would plate on a fielder's choice. With two outs, a two-run home run to right field by Brendon Kelliher cut the TU lead to one run at 4-3.

The sixth inning would see the Owls lose the lead for good and end Mongiardini's day. After, retiring the first batter of the inning, back-to-back singles to the next two hitters would chase Mongiardini. The Colonials rallied for six runs, two of which belonged to Mongiardini, to take the lead for good.

Temple managed one more in the seventh, but four runs in the eighth and another in the ninth from George Washington moved the final score 14-5.

Colonial's starter Eric Cantrell lasted eight innings, giving up 10 hits and striking out as many.

Game three is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Prior to the start of the contest, Temple's six seniors – Matt Blackburn, Mike Click, Tony Jusino, Kyle Monahan, Matt Mongiardini, and Ryan Thomas – will be honored for their time spent in the cherry and white.
