Cheerleading Team Earns Top 10 Finishes at National Championships

Owls earn seventh and eighth-place finishes in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla.- Over the weekend, the Temple University Cheerleaders competed in the College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., from Jan. 14-16. Over 100 Cheer teams from across the nation competed in this prestigious event.
The Cheer Team competed in the Division 1 All Girl Category and in Girls 4 Partner Stunt. This is the third time the All Girl Cheer Team has competed at the national level and the first time they have ranked in the Top 10. The Cheer Team placed 7th in the Div 1 All Girl category and 8th in the Girls 4 Partner Stunt category.

Under the direction of coaches Matt Echevarria and Emily Burster, members of the Nationals Team are: Melissa Orons, Tara Lassiter, Chelsea Brooks, Alyssa Mericle, Alexandra Spurgeon, Ashley Phung, Kelli McGugan, Elizabeth Nemeth, Alexa Szal, Lauren Bayer, Rebecca Rodriguez, Danielle Brasch, Darcy Stackhouse, Devon Hollenden, Caity Sitosky, Amanda Crimi, Colleen Fries, Tina Franzosa, Bunnie Weeks, Elizabeth Schumm, Amy Fiore, Valerie Smith and Katie Mulray.

The Cheer Team will continue to cheer at all men's and women's home basketball games for 2010-2011 season.
