McGonigle Hall to be site of the women's tournament
Schedule of Events
PHILADELPHIA - For the first time this year, fans will have the opportunity to catch the Temple women's fencing team at home in action as the Owls play host to the Philadelphia Invitational on Sunday, January 23. Action is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. in McGonigle Hall, with seven rounds of competition between Temple, Cornell, Drew, Duke, Fairleigh Dickinson, Haverford, Johns Hopkins, NJIT, Northwestern, Sacred Heart, North Carolina and Penn.
The Owls, under the direction of Hall of Fame head coach Nikki Franke, have had much individual success up to this point in the year. Senior Audrey Barroso and freshman Epiphany Georges kicked off the season with gold medal winning performances at the 31st Annual Temple Open, but junior Kamali Thompson has been on fire as of late.
Thompson placed sixth at the North American Cup B in November, and then impressively placed 16th at the Junior World Cup in Germany in early December. She would not stop there, most recently and notably taking first place overall in under-20 women's sabre at the North American Cup C in Dallas, Texas.
Fencing is slated to run all day Sunday, with the final round of bouts schedule for 5:30 p.m. Admission to the Philadelphia Invitational at McGonigle Hall is free to all who attend.
