STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Temple placed 15th in Friday morning's 5.2 mile meet at the Penn State National Invite, as the Owls were led by freshman Matthew Kacyon's 66th place finish time of 28:07.
“Conditions were a factor, so time was irrelevant today,” coach Matthew Jelley said. “We've been working on getting quick, which we did today, but we did that a little too early,”
Sophomore Phil Fanz placed second among Temple runners with his finish time of 28:11 to land him in 69th place overall.
Less than a minute later, senior Geoffrey Barletta crossed the finish line at the 29:05 mark for his 101st place finish.
Rounding out the top five for Temple's runners on Friday morning were sophomore Will Kellar and senior Ben Thomas. Kellar and Thomas finished two seconds apart, placing 111th and 112th, respectively.
Host-school Penn State won the meet with an average time of 26:46, compliments of having three runners place within the top-eight.
Atlantic 10 rival Duquesne took third place, as senior Jim Spisak led the Dukes with his third place finish among individuals.
Temple's next meet will be in two weeks when it heads to Charlotte, N.C, for the Atlantic 10 Championships on Oct. 29.
“The conference race will be a fast one, so after seeing what we did today, I think we'll be in good shape in two weeks when we go to A-10 Championships,” Jelley said.
