Georges Wins Silver Medal as Fencing Competes at Penn State's 40th Garret Open

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Temple Women's Fencing went to Penn State on Saturday to compete in the 40th Annual Garret Open. Sophomore Epiphany Georges took second place in foil to lead the Owls and earn herself a silver medal, while seniors Kamali Thompson placed fourth in sabre and sophomore Chantal Montrose finished 18th in epee.

Senior Alyssa Lomuscio had a strong day as well, placing seventh overall in foil.

In their second collegiate event, freshmen Lauren Rangel-Freidman and Tiki Kastor placed 16th and 17th in sabre, respectively. Following them was freshman Emily Dodson in 30th before sophomore Andrea Haley rounded out sabre competition in 33rd place.

Junior Mikayla Varadi had a top-25 finish in foil, finishing ahead of senior Danielle Jones.

Sophomore Kimberly Howell and senior Krystal Jones finished side-by-side in the final epee standings, placing 39th and 40th, respectively.

Temple will have two weeks off before returning to competition when it heads back to State College, Pa. for the Penn State Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3.
