PHILADELPHIA - UCLA and Villanova will both make appearances in McGonigle Hall this week to face the Temple women's basketball team as part of a five-game homestand for the Owls in the month of December. Temple (4-5) will face UCLA (5-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7:00 p.m. and will return to the court on Thursday, Dec. 22 to play its first Big 5 contest of the season against Villanova (8-2) at 4:00 p.m.

Both games will have a live webcast available HERE, and live stats available HERE.

THE OPENING TIP
•Temple has won two straight since returning home for what will be a five-game homestand in the month of December...The Owls snapped a five-game losing streak with a big, 73-57 win vs. Auburn on Dec. 3 and followed it with a 66-38 win vs. Kent State on Dec. 6.

•The Owls had lost all five games as part of a six-game road swing, and lost the first four by an average of only seven points before suffering a 71-50 loss at #11/12 Rutgers...Temple was within two points in the final minute of three of those losses (#24/25 Ohio St., Northern Illinois and St. John's).

Shey Peddy was named the A-10 Player of the Week on Dec. 5 after scoring her Temple career high with 27 points vs. Auburn, and leading the Owls with 16 points at #11/12 Rutgers...Peddy averaged 21.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 4.5 steals per game in the two contests.

Shey Peddy was recently named to the 2011-12 Naismith Women's College Player of the Year preseason watch list...Peddy was one of 50 Division I student-athletes named to the list.

•UCLA is 5-4 overall but the Bruins are coming off back-to-back losses to LSU and #6 Tennessee...A third loss was to top-ranked Baylor...Senior Rebekah Gardner leads the team with 16.4 ppg while redshirt junior Atonye Nyingifa is averaging 14.7 ppg along with a team-best 8.9 rpg.

SERIES RECORD
Temple and UCLA are meeting for just the second time, after the Bruins got the best of the Owls in Los Angeles last season. UCLA was ranked 13th when it defeated Temple on Nov. 28, 2010 by a score of 71-61.

SHATTERING THE GLASS
Over Temple's last two games, wins vs. Auburn and Kent State, the Owls have averaged 15 more rebounds per game than their opponents (44.5 to 29.5). Temple's 52 rebounds vs. Kent State were the most in nearly three years, since the Owls pulled down 52 boards in an overtime win at Tulane on Dec. 28, 2008.

Having allowed its opponents just 34.1 rebounds per game this season, Temple ranks in a tie for first among all teams in the A-10 in rebounding defense.

OWLS STEP UP IN THE COMMUNITY
The team stepped up in the community of Philadelphia, literally, when the Owls took part in the Philly Stair Climb on Sunday, Dec. 4, to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Pennsylvania's (SOPA's) Philadelphia program also known as T.E.A.M. Philly. The Philly Stair Climb is 53-floor vertical challenge that took place at the BNY Mellon Center downtown. As a team, the Owls raised $1200 for the cause.

PEDDY NAMED A-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shey Peddy was named the A-10 Player of the Week on Dec. 5 after scoring her Temple career high 27 points vs. Auburn, and leading the Owls with 16 points at #11/12 Rutgers. Peddy averaged 21.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 4.5 steals per game in the two contests.

McCARTHY MOVES INTO SIXTH ALL-TIME
With eight points against Auburn on Dec. 3, Kristen McCarthy moved into sixth place all-time at Temple in career scoring, now with 1,310 points. She now needs 20 more points to move into fifth place.

PEDDY NAMED TO NAISMITH WATCH LIST
