Women's Fencing Posts Perfect Day At Steven's Invitational

Foil squad impressively goes undefeated on the day
HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Temple women's fencing team went 5-0 at the Stevens Invitational on Sunday, led by an impressive display by the foil squad. Five foilists combined to go a perfect 45-0 for the day in a dominant performance.
"It's big any time a squad can shut out an opponent," said Assistant Coach Bradley Baker. "When you can do that for an entire day, against five different opponents, it's almost unheard-of. It shows the entire squad was really working today. They were all fencing well and they did a good job of communicating with each other how to handle each opposing fencer."
Overall the Owls controlled every meet, winning each by a large margin of victory. The first round saw a rematch against Johns Hopkins, who Temple defeated 20-7 in the friendly confines of McGonigle Hall on January 23. This time Temple improved on that, emerging on top by a score of 22-5. Rounds two and three featured opponents from the Boston area, as Temple beat Brandeis (21-6) and Tuft's (20-7). Fourth up was Queens College, which was shut out 27-0 by Temple, followed by a 26-1 victory over host Stevens Institute of Technology.
Six Owls went undefeated on the day. Mikayla Varadi (11-0), Alyssa Lomuscio (9-0), Epiphany Georges (9-0), Teagan Kilpatrick (8-0) and Danielle Jones (5-0), as previously noted, combined for a 45-0 record in foil. Sabre Kamali Thompson (13-0) joined them in the ranks of the undefeated.
