Women's Fencing Set To Host Temple Invitational On Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - Competing for the final time in McGonigle Hall this season, the #7 Temple women's fencing team is sure to put on a show as the Owls host the Temple Invitational on Sunday, February 27. Temple will be honoring its four seniors - Audrey Barroso, Grace Wu, Samantha Pascarelli and Alyssa Lombardi - prior to the start of competition (10:00 a.m.).
Converging on North Broad Street this weekend will be #3 Princeton, #4 St. John's, #9 Duke and #5 Penn State women's fencing teams. The men's teams of #2 St. Johns, #8 Duke, #7 Princeton and #4 Penn State will also be competing in McGonigle Hall at the same time.
The Owls (22-5) are competing in their first team meet since the Steven's Invitational on February 13, in which Temple posted a perfect 5-0 record. The foil squad impressively boasted a 45-0 record on the day, led by 11 wins from sophomore Mikayla Varadi.
Temple, ranked ninth in the nation in the first coaches' poll of the year, has shown it can hang with the top teams in the country. The Owls have posted upset wins over #2 Penn State, #7 Northwestern and #8 Penn this year.
The Temple Invitational is set for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 27, with free admission for all who attend.
