Kilpatrick leads with a fourth place finish in foil

BALTIMORE, Md. - The maximum twelve Temple women's fencers competed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Tournament hosted by Drew University on Saturday.  Seven Owls advanced to the Regional Finals, led by a fourth place finish by freshman Teagan Kilpatrick in foil.

"Today saw some very strong performances from our team against deep fields in all three weapons." said Assistant Coach Bradley Baker.  "This is what we've been working towards all season.  Having seven athletes make the regional finals is phenomenal.  Placing all four foilists in the top eight is especially impressive and really speaks to the work our team has been putting in on a daily basis since September.  We look forward to competing at Nationals in a couple of weeks."

Joining Kilpatrick in the foil finals were freshman Epiphany Georges (6th), sophomore Mikayla Varadi (7th), and junior Alyssa Lomuscio (8th).

Epee saw two Temple finalists in freshman Chantal Montrose (7th) and senior Grace Wu (12th).  Senior Alyssa Lombardi finished 24th in the event.

Junior Kamali Thompson led the way for the Cherry and White in sabre, placing seventh.  Freshman Andrea Haley (14th) and senior Samantha Pascarelli (17th) were semi-finalists, joined by senior Audrey Barroso (21st) and freshman Tasia Ford (22nd) in the weapon.

Temple now awaits results from the three other regions and an announcement from the NCAA Fencing Committee on Selection Tuesday as the 24-person fields for the NCAA National Championships are set.  NCAA Nationals will be hosted by Ohio State on March 24-27, 2011.
