Owls host Quakers at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple baseball team's game against Penn originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, has been moved up to Tuesday, March 15 with a 3:00 p.m. start time at Skip Wilson Field. The Owls, who are 8-5 on the year and riding a five game win streak, will host a Penn squad that is 3-6 on the season.
Temple has won five straight games since returning to the Philadelphia area, posting nine or more runs in four of the five contests. Senior Adrian Perez led the Owls batting .478 (11-23, 4 2B, 1 3B) over the last week, driving home a team best 10 RBI. He leads the team now in RBI (20) and doubles (8), ranking second on the squad with 24 hits.
Senior production continues to fuel the Owls' offense. Byron McKoy ranks tops on the team in hits (26) and batting average (.441), becoming the sixth player in Temple history to eclipse the 200 hit mark now ranking sixth all-time with 206. Ryan Ferguson has been a consistent power in the middle of the order for Temple, ranking second on the team with 17 RBI and third with 22 hits.
On the hill, Temple will be sending junior Jimmy Devine out to start. Devine threw a one-hitter over six innings to earn a 14-1 decision over Maryland Eastern Shore in the Owls' home opener last Wednesday. Devine gave up no earned runs and allowed just two walks while striking out a career-high nine batters.
Penn went 1-2 in a three-game series against Georgetown to close out a week-long stay in Florida. Jeremy Maas leads the Quakers batting .371 (13-35) through the first nine games, while Brandon Engelhardt has driven in a team-best eight RBI.
