Four Men's Basketball Players Earn All-Conference; Randall, Wyatt Selected for Major Awards

Allen repeats as first team selection
PHILADELPHIA – Senior forward Lavoy Allen was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference for the second straight season while sophomore guard Khalif Wyatt and junior forward Scootie Randall were named the league's Sixth Man of the Year and Chris Daniels Most Improved Player of the Year, respectively the league office announced its season awards Monday.
Junior guards Ramone Moore and Juan Fernandez were named second and third team all-conference, respectively while Randall was one of four players garnering honorable mention all-league. Allen also was selected to the A-10's All-Defensive team for the third straight season, joining Pepe Sanchez (1997-98 thru 1999-00) as the only other Owl to earn the honor three times. Fernandez, who owns a 3.20 cumulative grade point average as a Broadcast Journalism major, was selected to the Academic All-Atlantic 10 Conference team.
Allen, who is Temple's all-time rebound leader (1,103) and ranks 27th on the all-time scoring list with 1,380 points, leads the Owls and ranks fourth in the A-10 with an 8.2 rebound average. The Morrisville, Pa. native (Pennsbury High) also tops the team and ranks fourth in the league in blocks per game (1.8 bpg.) while placing second on the squad with an 11.8 scoring average.
Moore, who earned A-10 Sixth Man of the Year honors last season, leads Temple in scoring and ranks 11th in the conference with a 14.8 average in his first year as a starter. The Philadelphia native (Southern HS) leads the Owls in steals (tie-37), minutes per game (33.1 mpg.), free throws made (112), attempted (141) and percentage (.794) while ranking second in three-point percentage (.398) and assists (99).
Fernandez, a native of Rio Tercero, Argentina (Dr. Alexis Carrel HS), leads the Owls in assists (3.9 apg.) while ranking fourth on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg.). An honorable mention all-league selection as a sophomore, he is second on the team in three-pointers made (41) and free throw percentage (.787).
Randall, who has missed the last five games due a right foot injury, is third on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg,) while leading the squad in three-pointers (45) and ranking third in rebounding (5.1 rpg.). A starter in the first 25 games, the Philadelphia native (Communications Tech) entered the season with 60 career points and a 1.7 scoring average. He is just the second Owl to be named A-10 Most Improved Player, joining Dionte Christmas, who earned the honor in 2007.
Wyatt, who came off the bench in 25 of the team's 30 games, averages 9.5 points while leading the team in steals (tie-37) and three-point percentage (39-93, .419). He has 12 double-figure scoring games and his 27 points against Penn (1/19) are the second most by a Temple reserve in the last 26 years. He becomes the fifth Temple player to earn the honor, joining Moore (2010), Brian Polk (2002), Lynn Greer (2000) and Quincy Wadley (1999).
The Owls, 24-6, 14-2, are the #2-seed in the A-10 Tournament and open play against the winner of Tuesday's First Round game featuring #10-seed La Salle at #7-seed St. Bonaventure on Friday at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Tip time is 6:30 P.M. with the game being televised live by The Comcast Network and broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.
