Mahoney sets meet record in 1500m, Keogh wins hammer throw, Fanz the steeplechase

BETHLEHEM, Pa.
- Senior Bob Keogh won the hammer throw, junior Travis Mahoney the 1500m and freshman Philip Fanz took top honors in the 3000m steeplechase as the Temple men's track & field team competed at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian University on Sunday afternoon.  Mahoney not only took first place in the 1500m, he snapped the meet record.

Keogh went 196-09 in the hammer throw to place first, with junior Brian Littlepage taking eighth place with a heave of 148-08.  Littlepage was the top collegiate finisher in the discus, going 151-04.  Also faring well in the field was senior Miles Dryden, who was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with a leap of 23-07.25.  In the triple jump, freshman Gabe Pickett placed second with a mark of 46-08.25.

Mahoney ran 3:54.48 in the 1500m, breaking the original mark of 4:00.38 set in 1996.  Fanz cruised to a first place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 9:42.41.  In the 110m hurdles finals, junior Tim Malloy placed second, the first collegiate finisher, with a finals time of 14.33.  Freshman Alex McGee fared well in the 400m dash, placing sixth with a time of 49.30.  In the 200m dash, McGee was tops for the Owls with a second place time of 22.05.

The Owls are in action next competing in the Widener Invitational on April 23.
