Owls to honor seven seniors prior to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. start

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple baseball team looks to honor its seniors with a winning weekend, as the Owls host rival Saint Joseph's beginning Friday, May 13 (2:00 p.m.).  The careers of Rafael Cordero, Ryan Ferguson, Ben Flanary, Byron McKoy, Adrian Perez, Zach Pettis and Ben White will be celebrated prior to the start of competition on Sunday, May 15 (1:00 p.m.).

Perez, a two-year member of the Owls, leads Temple's offense with 76 hits on the year, a mark that is tied for seventh all-time in program history for a single season.  McKoy is tops on the squad with a .364 batting average, posting 72 hits on the year that ties him for ninth in Temple history.

Ferguson has been a force for the Owls this season, leading the club with nine homers on .340 hitting.  Originally a walk-on, the Glen Mills, Pa., native left a mark on the Temple record books with a program-best 26-game hit streak this season.  A four-year contributor, Flanary is batting .275 with 10 doubles in 37 starts this year.

Both Cordero and Pettis have been key role players for the Owls over their careers.  Cordero has made an impact off the bench for the Owls, recording five hits and scoring seven runs this season.  Pettis, appearing in five games this year, has been vital in working with the Owls' pitchers.

White will make his final home start on Friday.  The Parkesburg, Pa., native will graduate with at least the third-most strikeouts of any pitcher in Temple history, entering Friday's contest with 260 career K's.  On Saturday, junior Brant Norlander takes the hill, with freshman Matt Hockenberry making Sunday's start.

Scouting the Hawks...

Saint Joseph's (16-30, 6-12 A-10) is coming off of a win over city rival La Salle on Tuesday.  The Hawks had lost seven of their last eight prior to that contest, with their lone win coming over Fordham (9-5).  Greg Kumpel leads the Hawks batting a scorching .379 with 12 doubles on the year.

Series History...
The Owls hold a commanding 107-46-2 all-time record against rival Saint Joseph's.  The Hawks got the better of TU in the squads' April 5 meeting of this year, but Temple pulled off a 3-2 extra inning win last year.
