Owls late comeback attempt falls short
Box Score
AMBLER, Pa. - An early lead from St. Bonaventure was too much for the Temple baseball team to overcome in the series opener at Skip Wilson Field, as the Owls fell 9-6 on Friday afternoon. Temple is now 21-22 overall, 3-13 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Bonnies improve to 18-20, 8-8 in A-10 action.
Senior Ben White (4-7) lasted 5.0 innings in the start to card the loss, being relieved by redshirt-sophomore Steve Visnic who threw the final 4.0 innings scoreless. White struck out eight but allowed as many runs in the outing.
Senior Byron McKoy drove in three runs on a homer, while freshman Will Remillard led the Owls going four-for-five. Redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak was one-for-four in the contest, with his lone hit being his 20th double of the season.
For St. Bonaventure, Eddie Gray put in 6.0 innings of work to earn the win, being relieved by a trio of Bonnies to close out the contest.
St. Bonaventure took an 8-0 lead after three and a half innings of play until the Owls began to battle back. A three-run fourth brought Temple back into it at 8-3. All it took was one swing of the bat from McKoy to put the Owls on the board, going the opposite way to right to plate three.
The Bonnies picked one up in the sixth to make it a 9-3 ballgame, but again Temple inched back with a run in the seventh and a pair in the eighth. Sophomore Daniel Dragos hit an RBI-single to right to plate sophomore Henry Knabe in the seventh, with runs scoring on a groundout by Ferguson and a single by Knabe in the eighth. That would be all the scoring for the Owls, however, with the final score 9-6.
Game two of the three game series starts at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, with junior Brant Norlander of Temple going against Jordan Crane of St. Bonaventure.
