PHILADELPHIA - In front of a crowd of over 1,000, the Temple volleyball team took down visiting Rider (2-5) in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-21 in McGonigle Hall on Tuesday night. Gabriella Matautia and Collin Wallace knocked down 14 and 13 kills, respectively, to lead the Owls (3-3).

Matautia added nine digs and five blocks to her 14 kills, while Wallace recorded eight digs. Tiffany Connatser tallied a match-high 35 assists along with seven digs.

Temple more than doubled Rider's kills in the first set with 15 compared to the Broncs' seven, and did so again in the second set with 14 kills to Rider's six.

The Owls did let an 11-point, 20-9 first-set lead narrow to as few as four points at 21-17, but then took four of the final five points to close it out. Temple dominated once again early in the second set, racing out to a 9-1 lead before Rider began to find its stride, but the margin was never threatened.

The third set was the closest of the match with nine ties and four lead changes. The final tie came at 18-18, and Temle still led by just two at 22-20, but an Emily Frazer kill widened the gap to three and the Owls were able to close out the set and the match.

Temple will be back in action this weekend at Long Island's Blackbird Invitational, taking on Lehigh, Syracuse and host Long Island.
