PHILADELPHIA - The beginning of the Atlantic 10 season has Temple women's basketball playing the teams with the best overall records so far this year. The Owls (7-7, 1-0) already took out Richmond in the conference opener and will now face St. Bonaventure (14-2, 1-0) in their home opener on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Liacouras Center. Fans can watch a live webcast of the game HERE, and follow live stats HERE.

THE OPENING TIP
•Temple is coming off a thrilling win in its A-10 opener at Richmond on Jan. 7, as Kristen McCarthy hit the game-winning jumper on an assist from Shey Peddy with 0.2 seconds on the clock, lifting the Owls to a 56-55 win...Temple had trailed by as many as 14 points in the game.

•After averaging 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in Temple's two wins last week, McCarthy was named the A-10 co-Player of the Week as well as the Big 5 Player of the Week.

•The Owls finished their non-conference schedule (other than upcoming Penn) with a record of 6-7, most recently getting a 64-52 road win at Western Michigan on Jan. 2.

•Senior Shey Peddy ranks third in the A-10 in scoring (15.1 ppg) and third in steals (3.0 spg).

•Senior BJ Williams has led the team in assists in eight games this season, and currently ranks third among all players in the A-10 with 59 assists (4.5 per game).

•Five of the Owls' losses so far came as part of a six-game road swing, and they lost the first four by an average of only seven points...Temple was within two points in the final minute of three of those losses (#24/25 Ohio St., Northern Illinois and St. John's).

•McCarthy was one of 30 candidates selected for the Lowe's 2011-12 Women's Basketball Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes notable achievements in four areas- classroom, character, community and competition.

•Peddy was named to the 2011-12 Naismith Women's College Player of the Year preseason watch list...She was one of 50 Division I student-athletes named to the list.

•St. Bonaventure leads the A-10 with an overall record of 14-2, and the Bonnies won their A-10 opener at home against Duquesne by a score of 61-53...The lone losses for St. Bonaventure were to Villanova and to Delaware, now ranked in the Top 25.

•Jessica Jenkins leads St. Bonaventure with 14.3 ppg, while Megan Van Tatenhove is averaging 11.3 ppg along with 5.9 rpg (team co-leader)...The Bonnies have held their opponents to just 35.8 percent shooting from the field to lead the A-10.

SERIES RECORD
Temple is 31-17 all-time against St. Bonaventure and has dominated the series since 2001 with a record of 16-3. The Bonnies' wins have been fairly recent, as they took two of the five meetings since 2009. St. Bonaventure's last win was a 64-54 decision in Philadelphia in 2009-10. Last year Temple earned a 54-38 win on the road in the regular season, and also defeated the Bonnies 75-56 in the A-10 Quarterfinals.

BIGGEST COMEBACK WIN IN TWO YEARS
Temple's recent 56-55 win in the A-10 opener at Richmond saw the Owls overcome a 14-point deficit en route to the victory. Temple has had plenty of near-comebacks this season and last, but none that resulted in a win since a season-opening victory in 2009-10 when Temple came back from 18 down to defeat Illinois in overtime.

ATLANTIC 10 HOME OPENERS
Temple has won its last 11 Atlantic 10 home openers, dating back to 2001. The last time the Owls were defeated in an A-10 home opener was in a one-point, 79-78 loss to Fordham on Jan. 13, 2000.

ATLANTIC 10 OPENERS
Temple is now 16-14 all-time in A-10 openers and has won seven out of the last nine including last year's opener at Charlotte by a narrow margin of 60-57, and this year's opener at Richmond, 56-55, on a buzzer-beating jumper from Kristen McCarthy.

BJ DISTRIBUTION COMPANY
Senior BJ Williams has led the Owls in assists in eight of 14 games so far this season, and has already racked up 59 total assists (4.5 per game) to rank third among all players in the Atlantic 10.

PEDDY THEFT
Shey Peddy continues to find ways to grab the ball from Temple's opponents, as she leads the team and ranks third in the A-10 this season with 42 steals (3.0 per game).

Peddy set the program's all-time record for steals in a single season last year with 104, recording at least one steal in all but one game. Her 3.2 spg a year ago ranked second in the A-10 and tied for 10th in NCAA Division I.

SHATTERING THE GLASS
In Temple's wins vs. Auburn and Kent State, the Owls averaged 15 more rebounds per game than their opponents (44.5 to 29.5). Temple's 52 rebounds vs. Kent State were the most in nearly three years, since the Owls pulled down 52 boards in an OT win at Tulane on Dec. 28, 2008.

Having allowed its opponents just 33.6 rpg this season, Temple ranks second among all teams in the A-10 in rebounding defense.

McCARTHY MOVES INTO FIFTH ALL-TIME
With a game-high 14 points against Villanova on Dec. 22, Kristen McCarthy moved into fifth place all-time at Temple in career scoring, now with 1,380 points.

McCarthy started the season in 11th place, but advancing further will take some time as Kamesha Hairston ('07) stands in fourth place with 1,573 points (193 ahead of McCarthy).

THREE TOP TEAMS; THREE NEAR COMEBACKS
Temple has proved its toughness with some big comebacks in recent seasons, and showed it once again on Nov. 18 at #24/25 Ohio State, on Nov. 25 vs. #5/4 Texas A&M and yet again on Dec. 30 vs. #8/7 Duke.

TU was down 16 with 10 mins left at Ohio St. before cutting that deficit to two in the final minute, a 26-15 run that included nine points from Kristen McCarthy and eight from Shey Peddy. Against Texas A&M the Owls were down 20 with 16 mins left but used a 22-6 run to pull within 4. TU trailed Duke by 19 late in the first half, but cut the margin all the way to five in the final minute of the game.

McCARTHY IS HEAD OF THE CLASS
On Nov. 4, it was announced that Kristen McCarthy was one of 30 candidates selected for the Lowe's 2011-12 Women's Basketball Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes notable achievements in four areas- classroom, character, community and competition. The 10 finalists will be announced in late January, at which time a national ballot will be available to fans. To learn more, visit the website at www.seniorclassaward.com.

PEDDY NAMED TO NAISMITH WATCH LIST
Shey Peddy has been named to the 2011-12 Naismith Trophy Women's early-season watch list, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The list includes the 50 top women's college players from 35 schools around the country, and was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2012 season.

RPI REPORT
Temple is 66th in the RPI of 342 teams. The A-10's top team is Richmond, ranked 39th.

NOW THE TEAM TO BEAT
After four years of finishing higher than predicted in the A-10, the Owls are finally picked first in a tie with Dayton. Last year Temple was picked third and ended up second, and two years ago was picked fifth and went on to tie for second.
