Temple Rides To Win on Broad Street Line

There were plenty of tough decisions for Temple Coach Fran Dunphy to make as he readied his Owls for Wednesday night's match-up against Duke.
Getting his team from their North Philadelphia home to the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia for the big game, however, wasn't one of them.
A few hours before tip-off, the Owls boarded the SEPTA Broad Street Line at Cecil B. Moore Station, and enjoyed a smooth, quick ride to AT&T Station at the Sports Complex.
It was an ordinary commute, but one in which Dunphy saw tradition.
"These are our roots," Dunphy said. "Temple people ride the subway to go to school, go to class, and go to their jobs."
And just like those SEPTA riders Dunphy mentioned, the Owls departed the subway and went to work, knocking off the No. 5 ranked Duke Blue Devils, 78-73.
Preparation and hard work by the coach and team are credited for the victory, but Dunphy made note of the team's SEPTA experience, and is looking forward to repeating it.
"We'll take the subway again when we play Texas next year," Dunphy said, referring to the team's next scheduled game at the Wells Fargo Center. The Wells Fargo Center and other Sports Complex venues are easily accessible from the SEPTA Broad Street Line via AT&T Station.
"SEPTA looks forward to having the Owls back on board soon," said SEPTA General Manager Joseph M. Casey. "This was a great experience and an opportunity for SEPTA to support the team."
Casey was on-hand to greet the Owls at Cecil B. Moore Station, and chatted with coach Dunphy on the train.
A number of SEPTA riders were pleasantly surprised to see the team on their regular train. Many wished them good luck, with a few urging them to "Beat Duke!"
The Owls were happy to oblige.
