Men's Basketball Picked To Finish Fourth In A-10; Three Players Earn Preseason Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— In the league's preseason poll, Temple Men's Basketball earned three first place votes and has been chosen to finish its final season in the Atlantic 10 Conference in fourth place out of the 16 teams. Senior guard Khalif Wyatt was named to the Preseason First-Team All-Conference team, while fifth-year forward Scootie Randall was tabbed to the Preseason All-Conference Third Team and freshman forward Daniel Dingle (Bronx, N.Y./ St. Raymond) was selected to the A-10 Preseason All-Rookie team. The league announced the poll and awards Thursday in conjunction with its annual Media Day, held at Barclays Center. Both the awards and the predicted order of finish were chosen by a panel of the league's head coaches and media members.
Saint Joseph's has been chosen as the Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball preseason favorite in the league's preseason poll. There were also 25 A-10 student-athletes were selected for preseason awards. [See below for complete list of rankings and awards]
Wyatt, a second-team All-A-10 selection last season, ranked fourth in the conference in scoring with a 17.1 average, while finishing third in the A-10 in steals (2.2 pg.) and free throw percentage (.856). Joining Wyatt on the league's first team are Dayton senior guard Kevin Dillard, Fordham senior forward Chris Gaston, UMass' Chaz Williams and Kwamain Mitchell of Saint Louis.
Randall was named to the third team for a the second straight year. Having not played since the latter portion of the 2010-11 season due to a right foot injury, Randall will make his return to the floor this upcoming season. In 2010-11, he was named the A-10's Most Improved Player, averaged 10.7 points and 4.7 rebounds which was over nine points (1.7 ppg,) and three rebounds (1.4 rpg.) more than his sophomore season. Saint Joseph's C.J. Aiken and Halil Kanacevic, along with Richmond's Darien Brothers and Juvonte Reddic (VCU) joined Randall on the third team.
Joining Dingle on the A-10 Preseason All-Rookie team are Butler's Kellen Dunham, VCU's Melvin Johnson, Rhode Island's Jordan Hare, and Xavier's Semaj Christon.
The 2012-13 season begins for the Owls on Tuesday, Nov. 13 when they take on Kent State for a Noon time tip-off, which is part of the 2012 ESPN College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon . The year will culminate with the 2013 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. March 14-17. The tournament concludes with the finals on Sunday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m. on CBS.
