Men's Basketball Cracks Top 25 for Third Straight Season
2.20.12 | Men's Basketball
Owls ranked #22 in both polls
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's basketball team, riding a 10-game win streak and atop the Atlantic 10 standings, has cracked the Top 25 for the third straight season. The Owls (21-5, 10-2 A10) are ranked #22 by both the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today polls.
“This is great for the University, the students, alumni and fans of the program,” Temple head coach Fran Dunphy said. “Our focus, however, remains on this week as we have two very challenging A10/Big 5 games, at La Salle on Wednesday and at St. Joe's on Saturday. We just need to continue going about the business of getting better as a basketball team – one game at a time.”
It is the 18th season that Temple has been nationally ranked and the third time in program history that the Owls have been in the Top 25 in three consecutive seasons. The other two streaks were five seasons each (1986-87 thru 1990-81; 1997-98 thru 2000-01).
The Owls play two road A10/Big 5 games this week, travelling up Broad Street to take on La Salle Wednesday (7:00 p.m./1210 AM WPHT) and then to Saint Joseph's for a nationally-televised game against the Hawks (7:00 p.m./ESPNU/1210 AM WPHT). It marks Temple's first time at Hagan Arena since Feb. 13, 2001, a 72-61 St. Joe's win.
