FARMVILLE, Va. - For the third straight weekend Temple Baseball hits the road for a weekend series. This time around, the Owls make their way to Fairfax, Va. where they will take on the Longwood Lancers (5-2) in a four-game set beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium. Temple and Longwood will play a doubleheader (Noon and 3:00 p.m.) on Saturday afternoon before closing out the series Sunday at Noon. All games can be followed by using the Live Stats link posted above.

When it opens the series, Temple will be starting the first of six straight games below the Mason-Dixon line, as it will make visits to Virginia Commonwealth and George Mason for single-game midweek matchups after departing Longwood.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Ryan Wheeler, he brings the Owls (2-4) to play in environments he is very familiar with, as he spent the previous six years in Richmond, thus seeing all of these teams the Owls will face this weekend.

In its last time out, Temple went 1-2 at North Carolina A&T, winning the opening game of the series, which was played over a two-day span due to mother nature intervening in the top of the third inning, causing the contest to be suspended until Saturday afternoon, when the Owls finalized their 13-9 victory over the Aggies. In the game, redshirt senior Steve Nikorak tied Tom Whalen on Temple's all-time list with doubles in a career with 54.

Temple will be going with the rotation it has used in the first two series (Matt Hockenberry, Patrick Peterson and Nikorak) with Sunday's starter still yet to be determined.

The Lancers are coming off last weekend's road series sweep at Coppin State. Robby Newman and Matt Dickason are carrying the offense, having 12 runs each. Newman is batting a team-best .480 (12 for 25). On the mound, Morgan Kyler is the team's ace with a 2-0 record and a 1.29 ERA through 14.0 innings pitched.

In their only home series this season, the Lancers went 2-1 against Iona.

As a team, Longwood is batting .317, while holding its opponents to a .254 average. Brandon Delk has stolen a team-high four bases on five attempts

Out of the bullpen, Aaron Myers has pitched 6.0 scoreless innings, while allowing only two hits. Myers has struck out seven batters and has surrendered seven walks, but has stranded them all.

Longwood is under the direction of 34-year head coach Charles Buddy Bolding, who has an overall record of 905-497-4 since taking over during the fall of 1978.
